The Pressures Relief Valve is designed to release the built-uppressure in the air compressor pump head and lines, and after the aircompressor reaches the maximum pressure allowed by the pressure switch andturns off.
When this happens, and your air compressor is working correctly,you will hear air release from the pressure relief valve for 3 to 5 seconds andslowly stop.
When the air continues to leak from the pressure relief valve, youwill need to look at the one-way check valve that is in your air compressor tank.
With pressure in the tank, please remove the small airline fromthe On/Off switch and determine if air continues to flow from the small thatwas removed from the On/Off pressure switch.
If air continues to flow out from the relief tube, then you have a bad checkvalve in the compressor tank.
The Check Valve allows pressure to flow from your air compressorpump directly into the air compressor tank.
When this valve operates correctly, the air can only go into thetank and is then prevented from coming back out of the tank by the One-WayCheck valve.
When this check valve is defective, damaged, or worn, it willallow the compressed air to escape from the compressor tank and travel back outfrom the one-way check valve.
This air will now look for a place to escape and typically leakout from the pressure relief valve on your On /Off pressure switch.
The check valve is located at the end of the main outlet linecoming off from the air compressor pump and going into your air compressortank.
Remove this line from the air compressor pump and the aircompressor tank, and you will then be able to access your check valve toreplace your check valve.
